Walking With Sorrow

Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing. (2 Corinthians 6:10)

Sorrow was beautiful, but his beauty was the beauty of the moonlight shining through the leafy branches of the trees in the woods. His gentle light made little pools of silver here and there on the soft green moss of the forest floor. And when he sang, his song was like the low, sweet calls of the nightingale, and in his eyes was the unexpectant gaze of someone who has ceased to look for coming gladness. He could weep in tender sympathies with those who weep, but to rejoice with those who rejoice was unknown to him.
Joy was beautiful too, but hers was the radiant beauty of a summer morning. Her eyes still held the happy laughter of childhood, and her hair glistened with the sunshine's kiss. When she sang, her voice soared upward like a skylark's, and her steps were the march of a conqueror who has never known defeat. She could rejoice with anyone who rejoices, but to weep with those who weep was unknown to her.
Sorrow longingly said, "We can never be united as one." "No, never," responded Joy, with eyes misting as she spoke, "for my path lies through the sunlit meadows, the sweetest roses bloom when I arrive, and songbirds await my coming to sing their most joyous melodies."
"Yes, and my path," said Sorrow, turning slowly away, "leads through the dark forest, and moonflowers, which open only at night, will fill my hands. Yet the sweetest of all earthly songs-the love song of the night-will be mine. So farewell, dear Joy, farewell."
Yet even as Sorrow spoke, he and Joy became aware of someone standing beside them. In spite of the dim light, they sensed a kingly Presence, and suddenly a great and holy awe overwhelmed them. They then sank to their knees before Him.
"I see Him as the King of Joy," whispered Sorrow, "for on His head are many crowns, and the nailprints in His hands and feet are the scars of a great victory. And before Him all my sorrow is melting away into deathless love and gladness. I now give myself to Him forever."
"No, Sorrow," said Joy softly, " for I see Him as the King of Sorrow, and the crown on His head is a crown of thorns, and the nailprints in His hands and feet are the scars of terrible agony. I also give myself to Him forever, for sorrow with Him must be sweeter than any joy I have ever known."
"Then we are one in Him," they cried in gladness, "for no one but He could unite Joy and Sorrow." Therefore they walked hand in hand into the world, to follow Him through storms and sunshine, through winter's severe cold and the warmth of summer's gladness, and to be "sorrowful, yet always rejoicing."

Does Sorrow lay his hand upon your shoulder,
And walk with you in silence on life's way,
While Joy, your bright companion once, grown colder,
Becomes to you more distant day by day?
Run not from the companionship of Sorrow,
He is the messenger of God to thee;
And you will thank Him in His great tomorrow-
For what you do not know now, you then will see;
He is God's angel, clothed in veils of night,
With whom "we walk by faith" and "not by sight"
(2 Cor. 5:7 KJV)

Our Phone works!! Whoo-hoo!

Joel is back from the Desiring God Conference in Minneapolis. He spent three nights there with a few of his friends. But, golly, the kids and I sure missed him. He had a great time though, and learned lots of good things about God and words and the tongue.

Have you ever had rose hip Jam? I (Renee) made it for the first time today. It smells so good when you crush the rose hips. Tomorrow we'll see how it is on toast. Let me know if you want the recipe.

So yes, I figure you have noticed that our phone works now. It's weird not having a phone, yet strangely peaceful...Joel just reminded me of something of great importance: Joel and I prayed for the phone to work. After we prayed, Joel spent about 10-15 minutes messing around with the phone box outside. He comes inside and what do you know...There's a dial tone!!! So he calls his buddy Josh (Big Josh) and it went through just fine. Praise God! (and I mean that, it's not a cliche) I will try and be more grateful for the small things that God has given us, like a phone that works. And well, a phone that
doesn't work too, right?

Neighbor issues (Feel free to comment)

What would you do if you had a group of teenage/twenty somethings hanging out at your neighbors' house almost every night, using foul language, playing loud music, and having noisy cars?
This is not a pity party, I am honestly trying to figure out the best plan of action here, I want these kids saved! I really do have a burden for them, but at the same time my children are trying to sleep and all I hear is the "F" word.

Phone

For those of you who might call us...
Our phone is temporarily not in service, if you call us you will get a busy signal. I don't know what's wrong but we are trying to fix it. :)

Remind Me

About once a week I receive something in the mail or a phone call concerning Emily. I'm not talking about the many, many encouraging stories about how Emily has touched their life. I love to hear those. This particular post is about how cold hearted 'routine' and computers can be.
So it's been about three months since Emily went to heaven. Every week someone calls me about her insurance info, her name info, her SSN, etc.
One of the worst ones was from our insurance stating that Emily will no longer be receiving coverage because of her passing on June 11, 2008. A whole 42 cents for that?!! Thank you for informing me that she is dead.

Yesterday was the worst I think. My insurance sent a survey to Emily ___. Yes, it was addressed to her! They were wondering if their service to her was satisfactory. I guess that hit the top. How many times do I have to inform my insurance that Emily is dead, she's not here, she's in heaven!!
This might be the Age of Communication, but I think there are quite a few 'kinks' to work out.
Ok end of rant, I don't usually do this.... -(Renee)

Our First Nephew

Kaleb, Joshua and Rachel's first cousin, is absolutely adorable. Big brown eyes and a charming personality, we all love him. His parents, JoAnne (Joel's sister) and Shane are planning his first birthday this month. Below are some pictures from their visit in June: some are very cute and some are very cute and funny.

Our visit to Bemidji (Last month)

Our visit to Bemidji was great! We stopped along the way to take a break and found these really cool cone flower /sunflower /black eyed susans. We camped near Bemidji and met Joel's parents there. The pines were beautiful! The lake was warm and shallow, and the weather was decent. We also got to see our good friends Mark and Kelley and Oliver. They came swimming with us, we went to the park and did some "rock climbing", and then we ate venison tenderloin (marinated for 2.5 days, wrapped in bacon, and cooked over the campfire...anyone drooling yet?)

Visit with Pat and Clyde!

Pat and Clyde's visit was a few weeks ago. We had a good time with them. We hiked a rugged trail that opened up to beautiful views of different lakes. Joshua even hiked a good portion of the 3 miles (round trip). It was good to see Pat and Clyde, they were our hosts in Minneapolis when Emily was in the hospital.

Visit with Papa and Neena!

We had a great time with Neena and Papa (Renee's parents). Hiking, eating and playing. And cleaning! Yes, the grand parents helped clean the "old house". How nice of them! The 'old place' now sparkles and is cleaner than it was when we moved in! Anyway, the kids had a great time helping and eating carrots.

Moving and more

So we are in the process of moving...slowly. The house is a little smaller than I expect when I enter in with another box of stuff, it sure is hard to downsize.
We had a good time with Pat and Clyde when they came to visit us a few weeks ago. We also went camping out in the Bemidji area with Joel's parents, Steve and Nancy. That was alot of fun, and restful. And, bonus!, we got to see Mark and Kelley and Oliver three different times when we were there. Kelley had her baby, a little girl. Karis Brook, August 29 7:42am. 8lbs 7 oz. How exciting!
The next highlight of the month besides moving, is Renee's parents coming towards the end of the month.
Joshua and Rachel are doing well, besides lack of sleep lately. We all are enjoying the cooler weather and the leaves changing colors, though not too excited for winter quite yet!
