Field Trip to the Fire Station

This time I remembered not only to bring my camera, but to get it out and actually take pictures! The fire chief showed us the trucks, the gear, the axes and fun stuff like that. He let the kids climb into the back seat of one of the trucks. Then he put on his gear:

He wanted the kids to get used to what a fireman looks like so that in case one of the kids were actually stuck in a fire they wouldn't be scared of this weird guy dressed in all these weird clothes. He talked about fire safety and all that jazz. Now I'm pretty motivated to talk to our kids about fires and a meeting place outside in case there's a house fire. It's scary to think about, but necessary I think.

Here's Josh up on the fire truck. Rachel is the next one over to the left sitting down holding her hair back.

Frogs Vol. 1

I like when science experiments just "happen". No need to prepare and anticipate and plan.

The community park pond seems to be just the place for science. First, Joshua found some snails. That lasted for about 2 days then they were left outside overnight and froze. That was kind of sad. But then Joshua found some frog eggs, and the snails were forgotten.

So now we are observing our wood frog eggs and anticipating a hatch in the next several weeks. I will post more pictures as the action unfolds! So exciting!

Just the Kids

The Cute Quartet

Joshua:

Joshua climbed a tree for the first time the other day!

Rachel:

Rachel can write her name following the dots that Mommy makes.

Madelynn:

Madelynn fell down three basement steps for the first time. She was fine, just a few tears. Madelynn is also learning her shapes, colors and letters. (none of my doing, she's just watching and listening to the older kiddos!)

Hudson:

Hudson is getting a little stronger, holding his head up and standing on our laps. He smiles occasionally and says the classic "coo". All the kids love him with squeezes and kisses.
