The back legs popped out a couple weeks ago. They grew longer and more like frog legs as you can see here:
They started growing their front legs just this last week. I would show you a picture of this but over the holiday weekend we were out of town. When we arrived home, a sad sight greeted us. All 64 tadpoles/frogs were floating belly up. It was a little discouraging for me (Renee), and sad for the kids. We don't know what happened. They had plenty of food when we left, we had changed their water, so it was clean and full of oxygen. Maybe it was the big thunderstorm that passed through or maybe they missed us...
So now we have plans for next year to do this again. But in the meantime it was still educational for all of us and it exposed the children to the facts of life and death for animals.
:( That's a bummer. It does seem like they're hard to get past that point. A lot of ours died at the same developmental stage both times we did this. It would be so nice if we could find out what is going wrong and have more success next time.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you all soon!
