.an update on 'June Bug'.
An ultrasound revealed that this new baby's heart is not quite right. There is a slight defect which, if left untreated, will be fatal. What is the defect? There are two possibilities at this moment. Either it is a valve that is too small, or an artery leaving the heart that is too small. Whichever one it is, there is blood backup on one side of the heart. Without Mommy's womb, this would create too much stress on the heart. As of Friday Jan 25, this is all we know for sure. This Tuesday Jan 29, Joel and I will meet with a Pediatric Cardiologist (A doctor who specializes in infant/children's hearts). He will give us a diagnosis and what we can do from there. That is the situation in short, if you want more details please continue reading very, very carefully. I've tried to make it as clear as possible...
The possibilities that face us right now are as follows:
1. There is a 5% chance that this heart anomaly is a genetic defect. If this is so, then the options are as follows:
-The baby has Down Syndrome, which means heart surgery in the Twin Cities immediately after the baby is born. (And possible other surgeries)
-The baby has some other chromosome defect. Which means that the child will either die in utero, or shortly after the birth. This is completely untreatable, there is nothing the doctors can do for this option.
Joel and I decided it was best to test for a chromosome defect so that we could be prepared for what may happen. These results will also be known Tuesday when we meet with the Cardio doctor.
2. The other 95% chance means that we deliver this baby in the Twin Cities. The baby will have heart surgery within 48 hours of birth (depending on how he/she is doing). There is a 90% chance that this child will live after surgery.
We will update this page either Tuesday night or Wednesday. Thank you for reading and praying. As of right now, God has given Joel and I alot of peace about this whole thing. Please pray that God will heal this little heart and for Him to be glorified. Whatever happens, we know God is in control.
Please check out Renee's dad's blog, there you will find some encouraging comments from other friends.
Renne and Joel,
ReplyDeleteI pray that the God of Peace would fill your bodies and hearts with his healing presence. That your child's body would be molded into wholeness and protected. I pray that Renne, you would feel peace in your body and that the both of you would be given quiet hearts. I ask for wisdom for yourselves and for your doctors who will be agents of God's loving touch.

ReplyDeleteFather God: we pray that your healing power saturates every blood vessel and cell of this child; that every physical defect be made whole; and that the peace that passes all understanding pervades the lives of mom, dad, and baby. We pray for miraculous things to happen and for the most gifted doctors and advanced technologies to intervene as servants of your will. We ask that all those who love this couple come to support them in this time of need, demonstrating how powerful and loving your church on earth can be. And we thank you Father God most of all, for this miracle of life in the first place. We will always choose life for that is your joy in your creation.
